Text Republics’ insights to: Bulk Text Messaging and Narrowcasting

Don’t be overwhelmed by the ideas, simply put Text Republic’s article is comparing sending messages directly to your target audience and sending messages via the internet/social media in hope that the right people see it.

Text Republic has also given us a nifty and relevant to mobile, definition of narrowcasting: to share information or content to a targeted, selected audience.

This perfectly compliments what is said in the Mogreet infographic (below) which states that narrowcasting allows you to share directly with those you want to share it with, without the noise (noise meaning ads, other peoples tweets, etc.)

With the two ideas behind narrowcasting of ensuring that the information you want to send out is received by your targeted audience, we would have to agree with Text Republic’s theory that it is the same as communicating via bulk text messaging.

We can take away from this article these three facts:
1. ’98% of all text messages are opened’ v ’71% of tweets are ignored’
2. ‘We look at our phone 150 times per day’ v ’57% of people check their email fewer than 4 times a day’
3. ’6.4 billion text messages are sent in the US every 24 hours’ v ’3.2 billion facebook likes every 24 hours’

We are definitely not saying don’t bother with broadcasting and social media. We are saying, let’s put a little bit more effort in marketing strategies that are more personable and direct. It makes sense to us.
